This fourth edition of Oregon Legal Research continues its process-oriented approach to state legal research.  The chapters have been organized to align more closely with that process, particularly by moving secondary sources to appear earlier in the book.

Chapters of Oregon Legal Research are devoted to the sources, search techniques, and analysis of constitutional law, statutes, legislative history, administrative law, and cases. Additional chapters highlight the research process, with three comprehensive research strategies explained in the final chapter.  To emphasize Oregon sources, all information about federal legal research has been compiled in a new appendix.  Another appendix reviews current citation to legal sources under Oregon court rules, the ALWD Guide, and the Bluebook.

Oregon Legal Research was designed specifically for teaching legal research to first-year law students, but it has also been successful with upper-level classes. Moreover, practitioners, paralegals, librarians, college students, and even laypeople will find it a useful introduction to Oregon legal sources.

Megan Austin has joined as a co-author of this new edition, bringing insights and knowledge from many years of teaching legal research.

This book is part of the Legal Research Series, edited by Tenielle Fordyce-Ruff, Director of the Legal Research and Writing Program, Concordia University School of Law.
